Steve
Calvert - Co-Owner
Steve, who
grew up in Tucson, has been spending about 75 days per year in San
Carlos for the previous 8 years. His true passion is sport fishing, and
after several tournament wins and averaging over 100 billfish per year
for the past five years, figured he was getting pretty good at it. Steve
has dreamed about moving to San Carlos full time
for several years. When Steve sold his business in Tucson, it gave him
the perfect opportunity to go for his dream, a charter fishing
business. "I enjoy people and meeting new people and have a passion for
fishing". Steve runs the fleet, office, and as a fishing captain, tries
to have a little time to spend the day out with clients. It's safe to
say he will meet plenty of new friends on his adventure. Steve lives in
San Carlos full time and takes his fishing very seriously

Fernando Almada -
Co-Owner
Fernando Almada
Suárez was born, raised and educated in Guaymas. He began fishing from
shore with his older brother Jorge at an early age. At 16, he studied
English in the USA for a year and returned to Guaymas to graduate from a
local University as a fully bilingual Business Administrator. After
college he landed a banking job that finally gave him the opportunity to
save money to get a small aluminum boat. A few months later he upgraded
to a center console, doing only bottom fishing. After 6 years of banking
he moved to San Carlos, lucky enough to work for a great guy that also
loved fishing.
A great opportunity came along and he got his hands on a boat suitable
for trolling. “I went out, saw a ton of billfish, but could not catch
any. I decided to post a question on the local fishing forum asking for
tips, and the reply was a lot more than what I expected-an invitation
from Steve Calvert to go fishing aboard the CATCH-22! I could not
believe my luck, so I talked to my boss, got a day off from work and got
aboard the CATCH-22 for my first offshore trolling adventure. I learned
a lot from Steve and Captain Ricardo; we ended up with 9 Yellow Fin
Tuna”
Fernando started trolling in the pursuit of his first bill fish and he
landed a beautiful sailfish in his first tournament fishing on Calvert’s
team, taking first place. The first marlin was still waiting, and to
Fernando’s surprise it was in the next tournament that he would release
his first marlin, a black Marlin! Again fishing with team Catch-22.
Fernando and Steve have been fishing together, sharing tips and
techniques in bottom fishing and deep sea trolling ever since. Taking
advantage of each other’s expertise, they have formed a highly
competitive tournament fishing team and an even better friendship based
on the shared love for the great sport of fishing.
About the Company
Name
In 1970, Paramount
Pictures selected a location on Algodones Beach, outside the little
fishing village of San Carlos for the filming of the movie, Catch 22.
Based on the book by Joseph Heller and featuring an all-star cast, the
movie was a smash comedy hit. Today, the movie set and it's runway
are still visible and the beach is more widely known by it's nickname,
Catch 22 Beach. When Steve purchased his Luhrs 34, he named her
Catch-22. And now you know the rest of the story.......
